Tri-County
Amateur Radio Association (TCARA) is one of the oldest Amateur Radio
Clubs in the West. Some have claimed that TCARA is one of the oldest
radio clubs west of the Mississippi, and have newsletters dating back to
1925 to prove it.
Communications
is a very
important part of our lives, and amateur radio is a very good example of
how licensed citizens can coordinate efforts with emergency rescue and
law enforcement.
Active
Membership. We have experts in many areas of amateur radio from DX,
building equipment, and Emergency Communications. We will miss George
Dynes, (K6GMV) who past on in 2006. He was our 6-meter and DX expert for
our Club.
Radio
Amateurs from all over the world keep in touch by setting daily
schedules with other stations around the world to exchange greetings,
weather reports, and just to make new friends. TCARA has made it a goal
to educate and guide newly licensed amateurs as well as those whom are
interested in becoming a licensed amateur radio operator.
All
Licensed Radio Amateurs are welcomed to TCARA. We currently hold a
Sunday evening net and General Club meetings. Unlicensed persons are
also welcomed and encouraged to learn more about this wonderful hobby.
There are many members of TCARA that will help in meeting your needs in
becoming a seasoned amateur radio operator.
Amateur
radio services can be very valuable to communities and local government
agencies. During the Grand Prix Fire of 2003, some of our members
participated in providing their valuable talents as radio communicators,
and assisted with
many of the operations needed to battle the fire and aid the community.
