Gene's Bio:

Gene Hoelzle, K6PMC is 91 years old and oldest and longest member. He was a ham before the war and started as a private and ended up a major in the reserves.

Ran radios on Henderson Field, Guadacanal. Was on a B17 blown way off course in Aussie outback and force landed; found about a week later as supplies ran out.
Operated Kitron Radio in Pomona for many years where we got our TV and ham tubes tested and supplied. Recall seeing him there playing checkers with his tech.

Ernie Sandona who was also a club member and exceptional ham.

Gene was also president of the club when I think we met in basement of bank in Pomona.

Gene also has stories of japs the marines didn't kill, but ran off into jungle--they would infiltrate base at nite looking for something to eat!
